Kim Soo-hyun (28, Busan City Sports Association) aims to win a medal at the World Weightlifting Championships for the second time in a row.
The Korea Weightlifting Federation released the names of 19 athletes (10 men and 9 women) to compete in the 2023 World Championships on the 28th.
The tournament will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from September 4-17.
At last year"s World Championships, Korea won three bronze medals on a total basis.
Kim Soo-hyun in the women"s 76kg class, Kim Yong-ho in the men"s 55kg class, and Kim Woo-jae in the men"s 81kg class ranked third.
Among them, only Kim Soo-hyun will participate in the World Championships in Riyadh and challenge to win medals twice in a row.
Women"s heavyweights Park Hye-jeong (Goyang City Hall) and Son Young-hee (Busan Metropolitan City Sports Association) are also expected to fight for second place following Lee Won-won (China), the strongest in this weight class.
Jin Yun-seong (Goyang City Hall) and Jang Yeon-hak (Asan City Hall) in the men"s 102kg class are also evaluated as medalists.
The Riyadh World Championships is a "compulsory participation competition" that must be participated in to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
It also took ranking points for the Paris Olympics.
North Korean weightlifting will not participate in this world championship following 2021 and 2022.
